Definition of heart disease
What is
heart disease? Heart disease is a general term for all diseases that attack the
heart. Heart disease if not handled quickly can lead to death. So as a family
we must be quick and responsive to families affected by heart disease.
What we know
is that heart disease is a disease that attacks the heart. It turns out that
there are several types of heart disease. The following types of heart disease:
1. Coronary heart disease, namely heart disease that occurs due to narrowing of the blood vessels in the heart.
In disease
the main symptom is chest pain, which can be accompanied by shortness of
breath, pain radiating to the left arm, or to the jaw.
Coronary
heart disease, caused by narrowing of the blood vessels in the heart. Some of
the risk factors include an unhealthy lifestyle, such as eating foods high in
carbohydrates or fat, obesity, infrequent physical activity, and smoking
habits.

2. Congenital heart disease, is a heart problem found in infancy. The most common problem is leaking heart valves.
symptoms can
include tightness and appear blue when crying or feeding, swelling around the
eyes and in the legs, and not gaining weight.
Congenital
heart disease, the cause is unknown until now. Some of the risk factors include
the mother being infected with rubella during pregnancy, the mother taking
certain drugs during pregnancy, or a gene abnormality.

3. Arrhythmia, which is a heart rhythm disorder that causes an abnormal heart rate.
In Heart
Disease Arrhythmias, symptoms that can arise include palpitations, chest
discomfort, shortness of breath, the sensation of floating, even fainting.
Arrhythmias
are generally caused by congenital abnormalities, the presence of heart muscle
that dies from coronary heart disease, excessive alcohol or caffeine
consumption, stress, or the side effects of certain drugs.

4. Heart failure, namely failure of the heart muscle to pump blood adequately throughout the body.
In heart
failure, the symptoms are shortness of breath that gets worse during activity,
shortness of breath that gets worse when lying down, swollen legs, and an
enlarged stomach.
Heart
failure, generally caused by coronary heart disease, infection, or heart valve
abnormalities

5. Heart infection (endocarditis), which is an infection of the inner lining of the heart.
In heart
infection, the symptoms include fever, irregular heartbeat, shortness of
breath, swelling in the abdomen or legs, and coughing.
Heart
infection (endocarditis), generally caused by viruses or bacteria. The bacteria
most commonly found as a cause is infection with Group A Streptococcus beta
hemolyticus bacteria
Heart Disease Prevention
Not all
heart diseases can be cured, but at least they can be prevented. In congenital
heart disease, effective prevention measures have not been found to date.
However, in coronary heart disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias, several
prevention efforts can be made, including:
1. Eat foods high
in fiber, low in sugar, and low in fat.
2. Quit smoking and
avoid exposure to secondhand smoke.
3. Check blood
pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol regularly.
4. Doing physical
exercise, such as jogging, cycling and swimming, for at least 30 minutes every
day.
How to know if you have heart disease
To ensure that there is a heart problem, several tests are needed, depending on the type of heart disease. In general, tests to confirm a diagnosis of heart disease are:
1. Electrocardiogram
(EKG), which is an examination to see the flow of electricity and heart rhythm.
This examination is performed by attaching several leads (shaped like a clamp)
to the patient's body. EKG is the most common test performed on those suspected
of having heart problems.
2. Echocardiography,
which is an examination to see the inside of the heart, heart pump function,
and heart valve function. This examination is mainly performed on those
suspected of having heart failure, congenital heart disease, and heart valve
abnormalities.
3. Treadmill test,
which is a heart rhythm check that is done while the patient is doing physical
activity (treadmill). This examination is generally done to detect coronary
heart disease early.
4. Angiography, which is an examination of the heart which is done by inserting a "camera" into the blood vessels of the heart to see any blockages in the blood vessels of the heart.
